Stonington police charge teen with sexual assault

Stonington -- Police have charged a Pawcatuck man with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl after she acknowledged that she had consensual sexual contact with him at her home on several occasions in March.

Gavin K. Robbins, 19, of 17 Lester Ave., Pawcatuck, was charged Friday with second-degree sexual assault of a victim under 16 and two counts of risk of injury to a minor after he turned himself in to police who had obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was arraigned Friday in New London Superior Court and is being held on a $35,000 bond, according to court records. He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 17.

Police said they began their investigation after the state Department of Children and FamilIes had received a complaint from a third party on its hotline.

Police said the investigation also revealed that Robbins engaged in sexually oriented and inappropriate conversation and behavior in the presence of an 11-year-old girl at the home of the 14-year-old girl. Police said a witness confirmed Robbins’ behavior.
