Water line repair completed in Bozrah

Bozrah — Norwich Public Utilities crews completed repairs at about 2 a.m. Tuesday on a broken 30-inch water main on Fitchville Road and restored water service to all affected customers between 2 and 6 a.m.

The break in the 1941 pipe occurred about 1 p.m. Monday and required an extensive repair effort to cut off water to the main, dig up the road, remove the broken section of pipe and replace it with a new plastic pipe.

NPU spokesman Chris Riley said the majority of water main breaks occur when there is a significant change in temperature, and the first hard frost of the season last weekend, combined with the age of the pipe, could have been factors in the Fitchville Road break.

NPU officials cautioned that some homes and businesses restored to service might experience discolored water temporarily. Anyone encountering discolored water should open the cold tap and let the water run for four to five minutes, which should resolve the issue.
