    H.S. roundup: Stonington field hockey hands East Lyme first loss

    Stonington — Stonington avenged its only loss and handed East Lyme its first defeat with a 2-0 Eastern Connecticut Conference field victory over the Vikings on Monday.

    Ellie Korinek, assisted by Hannah Nulick, gave the Bears (8-1) a 1-0 halftime lead and Nulick, assisted by Sandy McGugan, added an insurance goal in the fourth quarter.

    Avery Slocum made one save in goal for Stonington while Alison Martin stopped six shots for the Vikings (2-1).

    Volleyball

    • Helen Megson had 15 kills and eight digs as Lyman Memorial remained unbeaten with a 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20 win over Woodstock Academy. Anna Mathewson added 25 digs and four aces for the Bulldogs (8-0) while Callie Nanos had eight kills.

    • Fitch defeated Wheeler 3-0 for its first win. Alyssa Virtue had six kills, Katie Tuohy five kills, Rita Sefransky 17 assists and Marlo Sim 15 digs for the Falcons (1-4), while Molly Butremovic had seven kills  and Juliana Martens three blocks for the Lions (0-7).

    • Plainfield outlasted New London 3-1. Game scores were 25-16, 20-25, 25-9 and 25-15. Caylee Parker had 22 service points, three aces, 10 kills, two locks and 11 digs for the Whalers (1-5) while Ana Matos added 14 points, four aces, four kills, seven assists and nine digs, JeLicia Rivera had 11 points and six kills, Wennonah Amar had eight assists and seven digs and Jayden Burns four kills and 10 digs.

    Girls' soccer

    • Grace Lathrop and Abby Manthous scored first-half goals as Old Lyme remained unbeaten with a 2-1 victory over Haddam-Killingworth in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats are 6-0-1.

    Boys' soccer

    • St. Bernard scored a pair of second-half goals to break a 1-1 halftime deadlock and defeat Grasso Tech 3-1. Dominic Ranelli scored twice for the Saints (3-1) and Jose Pacheco added a goal. Charlie Morrison scored for the Eagles (0-4) and goalie Gabe Derosiers made 15 saves.

    • East Lyme and Lyman Memorial battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw in the ECC. Jonathan Zavaleta, assisted by James O'Connor, gave the Vikings (2-1-1) a 1-0 lead but the Bulldogs (1-4-1) forced overtime when Drew Archer set up Dylan Lucey for a goal with just under three minutes left in regulation. East Lyme goalie Owen Brown and Lyman keeper Zack Merritt each made six saves.

    • East Lyme got back to work after a two-week break and beat Bacon Academy 1-0 on Saturday night. The Vikings (2-1) scored the game's only goal in the 48th minute when Matt Tapia scored off an assist from Cooper Pazzaglia. Goalie Owen Brown made six saves for East Lyme, which held an 8-6 edge in shots, while Owen Burton stopped five shots for the Bobcats (1-6).
