UConn freshman Paige Bueckers was one of 10 players named to the candidate list for the 2021 Nancy Lieberman Award on Monday, an annual award which goes to the top point guard in Division I women's basketball.

Bueckers leads the third-ranked Huskies with 18.5 points, 5.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game, as well as a 54.8 three-point shooting percentage. She has scored in double digits in 10 games this season, including four games with 20-plus points.

Previous UConn winners of the award were Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Renee Montgomery, and Moriah Jefferson.

Other players on the list are Destiny Slocum (Arkansas), DiDi Richards (Baylor), Dyaisha Fair (Buffalo), Ali Patberg (Indiana), Hailey Van Lith (Louisville), Myah Taylor (Mississippi State), Raina Perez (North Carolina State), Diamond Johnson (Rutgers) and Tiana Mangakahia (Syracuse).

Players can play their way on and off the list during the season before a list of five finalists is presented to Lieberman and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame selection committee in March.

The winner will be announced on April 9 during the NCAA Final Four.

Also Monday, Bueckers was named Big East Freshman of the Week for the sixth time this season.

In a pair of road games against top 25 teams, Bueckers averaged 24.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the 3-point line.

She scored a team-high 27 points in a loss to No. 16 Arkansas and recorded the first double-double of her career in Sunday's win over No. 20 DePaul with 22 points and 12 assists.

Bueckers' teammate, junior Christyn Williams, was named to the Big East weekly honor roll after averaging 22.5 points, 45 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the two games, including a career-high 29 points on 12-of-15 shooting against DePaul.

UConn (11-1, 9-0), which remained third in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll despite suffering its first loss, hosts St. John's on Wednesday at Gampel Pavilion (6:30 p.m., SNY).
