    Maples Leafs 4, Oilers 0

Jack Campbell made 30 saves for his third NHL shutout, Mitch Marner had a goal and an assist and NHL-leading Toronto opened a three-game set in Edmonton with a victory on Saturday night.

“It was awesome,” Campbell said. “It’s what you play for.”

William Nylander, Jason Spezza and Zach Hyman also scored for Toronto (16-4-2), which was without NHL goals leader Auston Matthews because of a wrist injury. John Tavares added two assists to help the Maple Leafs improve to 16-4-2 and open a six-point lead over the Oilers in the all-Canadian North Division.

Matthews tops the NHL with 18 goals in 20 games. He sat out for a second time against the Oilers this season because of the wrist issue.

“When you lose a guy like that, you’re essentially taking a goal away from your lineup,” Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said. “If you score one less, you’ve got to make sure you give up one less. Whether Auston was in or out, to beat an Edmonton team that’s rolling the way that they are and playing as confidently as they are, we had to really play a sound team game shift to shift.”

Mike Smith stopped 25 shots for Edmonton. The Oilers had won five straight.

“We just didn’t deserve to win,” Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl said. “They just outbattled us.”

Campbell returned after missing more than a month with a leg injury. No. 1 goalie Frederik Andersen remains day-to-day with a lower-body ailment that pressed third-stringer Michael Hutchison into action twice earlier this week.

The teams also will play Monday and Wednesday nights.

    Lightning 5, Stars 0

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 20 saves for his second straight shutout and 23rd overall and the defending champion Tampa Bay beat Dallas in the first Stanley Cup rematch of the season.

The teams will meet again Tuesday night in Dallas. They had four previous scheduled meetings season postponed because of COVID protocols and weather issues in Dallas.

Steven Stamkos and Anthony Cirelli each had a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay, and Ondrej Palat, Brayden Point and Pat Maroon also scored for Tampa Bay. The Lightning scored two power-play goals and one short-handed to extend their winning streak to four games.

    Flyers 3, Sabres 0

Brian Elliott stopped 23 shots to shut out the Sabres for a second time this season.

The Flyers were spurred by a replenished lineup in which four players returned after spending two weeks in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol. They included Scott Laughton, who scored a breakaway goal to make it 3-0 late in the second period.

Sean Couturier had a goal and assist to extend his points streak to five games, in which he has four goals and five assists, and Shayne Gostisbehere also scored. Philadelphia improved to 3-2-2 in its past seven and won consecutive games for the first time since a five-game winning streak to close January.

The Sabres dropped to 2-6-1 in their past nine and played their second game without captain Jack Eichel, listed as day to day with a lower body injury.

    Predators 2, Blue Jackets 1

Mattias Ekholm scored a pair of second-period goals, and Juuse Saros made 29 saves for Nashville, a winner of three of the last four games.

Saros earned his first victory since Jan. 27. Saros’ fellow Finn Pekka Rinne has taken a larger share of the goaltending duties for Nashville in the month of February.

Cam Atkinson scored the lone goal and Joonas Korpisalo made 31 saves for Columbus, loser of four straight.

Back in the lineup after recovering from an injury, Ekholm tied the game early in the second period with a slap shot from the left point through traffic for his first goal of the season and Ekholm’s 200th career point. He struck again late in the second for the first multi-goal game of his 551-game NHL career.

    Flames 6, Senators 3

Juuso Valimaki, Mikael Backlund, Elias Lindholm, Sean Monahan, Andrew Mangiapane and Matthew Tkachuk scored for the Flames, who ended Ottawa’s three-game win streak.

Drake Batherson, Colin White and Brady Tkachuk replied for the last-place Senators.

The Flames opened the scoring four minutes into the game and didn’t look back. The speedy Johnny Gaudreau zipped around a couple of Ottawa players before sending a backhand saucer pass to Valimaki for a one-timer past Matt Murray. Calgary scored again 37 seconds later as Backlund flipped a rolling puck past a handcuffed Murray.

    Hurricanes 4, Panthers 3 (SO)

Martin Necas scored the winning goal in a shootout for Carolina, which also got goals from Vincent Trocheck, Jake Bean and Warren Foegele in regulation.

Jonathan Huberdeau, Frank Vatrano, and Patric Hornqvist scored for Florida.

Hornqvist scored his ninth goal of the season with 1:54 remaining in the third period as Florida rallied for the second time in the contest and forced the OT. Foegele had given Carolina a 3-2 lead with just under six minutes remaining.

James Reimer had 28 saves for the Hurricanes. Sergei Bobrovsky turned back 30 of 33 shots for the Panthers.

    Wild 4, Kings 3 (OT)

Matt Dumba scored in the final second of overtime to lead the Wild to the win.

With time running out, Minnesota’s Mats Zuccarello dug the puck out of a scrum on the side boards and slipped a pass to Dumba in the slot. The Wild defenseman made a move and flipped a wrist shot past Calvin Peterson with 0.3 seconds left.

Joel Eriksson Ek, Nico Sturm and Kirill Kaprizov also scored for the Wild. Kaapo Kahkonen made 25 saves as the Wild won their sixth straight.

Drew Doughty, Austin Wagner and Adrian Kempe scored for the Kings, who overcame a three-goal deficit to force overtime.

    Red Wings 5, Blackhawks 3

Frans Nielsen had a goal, and an assist and Detroit won its second straight.

Bobby Ryan, Darren Helm, Christian Djoos and Evgeny Svechnikov also scored for the Red Wings, who won for the third time in four games after a 4-12-3 start. The Blackhawks had won two straight and five of their previous six.

Alex DeBrincat, Mattias Janmark and Dominik Kubalik scored for Chicago.

    Avalanche 6, Coyotes 2

Jacob MacDonald broke a tie with his first goal of the season and Colorado swept the two-game, two-day series.

Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Joonas Donskoi, Tyson Jost and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare also scored, with the Avalanche striking four times in the third period. Philipp Grubauer stopped 23 shots for the victory.

Clayton Keller and Ilya Lyubushkin — with his first NHL goal — scored for Arizona. Antti Raanta made 35 saves.

    Blues 7, Sharks 6

Marco Scandella scored his second goal of the game to break a tie in the third period and St. Louis rallied after Blues starting goalie Jordan Binnington lost his cool when getting pulled.

Binnington went after three Sharks when he was replaced after allowing his fourth goal on 19 shots. Ville Husso stopped 19 of 21 shots he faced in relief and the Blues got the win after tying the game on Zach Sanford’s goal late in the second and then three more in the first 7:14 of a back-and-forth third period.

Mackenzie MacEachern scored a short-handed goal, Ryan O’Reilly added another and Scandella took a pass from Oskar Sundqvist to make it 7-6 midway through the third. Sammy Blais and Brayden Schenn also scored for the Blues, who had lost four of five.

Evander Kane and Timo Meier each scored twice, and Logan Couture and Kevin Labanc added goals in the Sharks’ first game back after having one game postponed because of Tomas Hertl’s positive test for the coronavirus.

Golden Knights 3, Ducks 2 (OT)

William Karlsson scored two goals, including the winner in overtime, and the Vegas Golden Knights continued their mastery of the Ducks.

Karlsson scored on a breakaway and put a wrist shot past John Gibson with 1:37 remaining in overtime for his fifth goal of the season. Karlsson also had a highlight-reel goal in the second period to give Vegas a 2-1 lead.

Alex Pietrangelo extended his points streak to three games with a goal and an assist while Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves, including a pair on point-blank shots from Isac Lundestrom in overtime. Vegas has won four of five meetings against Anaheim this season, and 14 of 17 all-time.

Rickard Rakell led Anaheim with a goal and an assist, while Adam Henrique also scored.

    Jets 2, Canadiens 1 (OT)

Paul Stastny scored in the first minute of overtime to give Winnipeg the victory and extend the Jets’ winning streak to four games.

Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for Winnipeg, which won despite being outshot 41-21. Connor Hellebuyck made 40 saves.

Nick Suzuki scored for Montreal. Jake Allen made 19 saves in the loss. Montreal’s winless streak is now at five games. The streak includes back-to-back losses to the Jets. Montreal held a 3-1 lead on Winnipeg on Thursday night before the Jets scored five unanswered goals en route to a 6-3 win.
