    Local roundup: Similien's shot wins it for Saints

    Montville — Cedrick Similien made a 3-pointer with five seconds left to lift St. Bernard to an 86-83 win over Stonington in an Eastern Connecticut Conference South Division boys' basketball game on Thursday night.

    Walker Baillargeon led the Saints with 31 points. Frank Pacheco scored 21 points, Similien finished with 18 and Tyson Wheeler scored 13 for St. Bernard (4-2).

    Dorian White scored 28 points for Stonington (0-6) and Alex Tobiassen (19), Camden Hinchey (13) and Nate Cyr (10) also scored in double figures for the Bears.

    In other games:

    • Marshall Gada scored 15 points to lead East Lyme to a 49-29 win over Waterford in an ECC South Division game. Matt Valakos had six rebounds and Gada had seven rebounds for the Vikings (6-1). Trevor D'Amico led Waterford (4-3) with 11 points.

    • Ledyard beat Montville 72-48 in the ECC South Division game. Jabari Jones had 13 rebounds and Dorell Cagle had 11 rebounds for Ledyard (2-5). 

    • Evan Merchant scored all 17 of his points in the first half as Griswold beat Lyman Memorial 44-35 in an ECC North Division game. Jacob Strain had 13 points and seven rebounds and Tyler Green had eight rebounds and three blocks for Griswold (3-3). Jaiden Lopez led Lyman (1-5) with 13 points. 

    • Tayeshawn Pemberton scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds as New London beat Stonington 50-47 in an ECC South Division game on Tuesday night. Rhodia Perry had 15 points, five assists, seven rebounds and six steals and Anthony Martinez scored 10 and took two charges for New London (4-2).

    Girls' basketball

    • Lily Kramer and Milena Walker combined for 36 points as Waterford beat East Lyme 51-37 in an ECC South game. Kramer scored 19, Walker had 17 points and seven rebounds and Gaby Kramer had eight points and two assists for Waterford (4-2). Sachi Vora led East Lyme (0-5) with 16 points and teammate Izzy Pazzaglia scored nine.

    • Old Lyme won its seventh straight game, beating North Branford 51-44 in a Shoreline Conference game. Emily DeRoehn had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Sam Gray scored 12 points and Emma McCulloch had seven points and 10 rebounds for Old Lyme (7-1).

    • Natalyah Williams scored 17 points and Clare Inyang had 14 rebounds as Ledyard beat Montville 36-26 in an ECC South Division game. Kieara Kirvan scored eight and Williams had seven rebounds and five steals for Ledyard (3-4). Maya Hillman led Montville (1-4) with nine points.

    • Griswold beat Lyman Memorial 39-22 in an ECC North Division game. Hailey Eliasson scored 17 points and Bella Rubino and Abbigail Wing had eight rebounds each for Griswold (1-5) and Kassidy LaTour led Lyman (1-5) with 13 points and four rebounds.  

    Men's basketball

    • James Welch scored 21 points off the bench as Babson defeated Mitchell College 83-58 on Wednesday night in New London. The Beavers are 5-0. Elijah Baidoo led the Mariners (0-2) with 13 points while New London's Jalen Benson added 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

    Women's basketball

    • East Lyme's Megan Bauman scored a game-high 21 points as Babson (9-0) rolled to a 93-45 win over Mitchell on Wednesday night in Babson Park, Mass. Amina Wiley had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Mariners (0-2).
