Ledyard — Dave Cornish, who won more than 160 games in his 10 seasons, resigned Saturday as the boys' basketball coach at Ledyard High School.

"I greatly appreciate the opportunity (athletic director/assistant principal) Jim Buonocore gave me 10 years ago to become the head coach at Ledyard," Cornish said. "I take pride in knowing that I was able to build a program that the Ledyard community can be proud of. It is with great sadness that I am leaving the program, but I wish the Ledyard boys the best."

Cornish went 166-68 with five divisional titles, the 2017 Eastern Connecticut Conference tournament title and multiple all-state players, including 2017 Day Player of the Year De'Ante Bruton.

Ledyard reached the ECC tournament championship game last year at Mohegan Sun Arena and made the Class M state semifinals in 2012 and the Class LL state semifinals in 2014.

Cornish was a longtime assistant at New London before taking the Ledyard position.

"It was a privilege to work with Dave for the past 10 years," Buonocore said. "He built a program that is well respected not only in the ECC, but throughout the state. Our teams were well prepared and always willing to play anybody, anytime and anywhere.

"Dave was my first phone call when I was searching for a head coach 10 years ago and I have not regretted that call for one second."
