    H.S. lacrosse: Valakos helps East Lyme boys beat Fitch in ECC Div. I showdown

    East Lyme — Matt Valakos scored seven goals as East Lyme won an early-season matchup of Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I unbeatens with a 19-7 boys' lacrosse victory over Fitch on Tuesday night.

    Valakos also had two assists for the Vikings (5-0, 4-0) while Sean McCusker added three goals and one assist and Miles Hinkley, Garisen Wiese, Anthony Gesino and Drew Sager scored two goals apiece.

    Josh Letellier scored three goals and added an assist for the Falcons (3-1, 3-1) while Ty Peters added a pair of goals.

    In other games:

    • Nick Cox scored eight goals as Old Lyme defeated rival Old Saybrook, 17-10, in a Shoreline Conference gam. Owen Macadam added four goals for the Wildcats (3-3, 3-0).

    • Bacon Academy stayed unbeaten with an 11-8 win over Waterford. Tyler Graham had three goals and two assists to lead the Bobcats (4-0) while Kellen Paparella added three goals and one assist and Jack Holmes scored twice. Anthony Stone and Jackson Huta scored two goals apiece for the Lancers (2-4), who had their two-game winning streak snapped.

    Girls

    • Emily Mesham scored six times and Hayden Saunders added 11 saves as Old Lyme beat Middletown, 16-3, in a non-conference game. Caroline Crolius had four goals, Gretchen Burgess scored three times, Sydney Goulding had a goal and an assist and Schuyler Greenho had two assists for the Wildcats (3-3).

    • Megan Detwiler scored four goals as Stonington defeated Montville, 13-4. Ivy Goodman and Rachel Sabbadini had three goals apiece for Stonington (4-1). Lily Tomczik scored twice for Montville (2-2).

    • Skylar Gustavsen's three goals and three assists helped Bacon Academy past Ledyard, 7-3, in an ECC Division II game. Maddox Burton also scored three goals for the Bobcats (4-1, 3-0). Maddie Leyko scored twice for Ledyard (3-2, 3-1).

    • Dani Bruno had four goals and an assist to highlight unbeaten East Lyme's 22-1 win over Woodstock Academy in an ECC Division I game. Sydney Sager added three goals and an assist for the Vikings (5-0, 4-0) while Ryan Nagle had two goals and four assist and Nancy Alden and Izzy Mazzi each had two goals and two assists.

    • Nora Casey and Rita Sefransky had three goals apiece as Fitch defeated Griswold, 17-1. Sefransky added five assists and Jessica Russo, Brooke Bergendahl and Maddie Corbiel had two goals apiece for the Falcons (5-1). Griswold is 2-3.
