U.S. News & World Report ranks Marine Science Magnet High School No. 2 in Connecticut

In a recently released list, U.S. News & World Report ranked Marine Science Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut the second-best public high school in Connecticut, after Darien High School.

The school ranked No. 1 in Connecticut on the College Readiness Index, which measures the proportion of seniors who took and passed at least one Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exam. Nationally, Marine Science Magnet ranked 310 out of high schools overall and 77 for magnet high schools.

The list included 212 high schools in Connecticut and 23,553 nationwide.

"We have worked really hard from the very beginning to maximize learning opportunities for all of our students, and I think this recognition is important, it feels good, and it's also just one reflection of the work that our students and staff and parents do here every day," Principal Tara Amatrudo said. She has been in her role since last July.

In 2018, U.S. News & World Report ranked Marine Science Magnet the sixth-best in the state and 352nd in the country.
