As I understand it, this Stephen Sondheim fellow has written every popular music in theater history except "South Pacific" (he was busy that day), "Cats" (he doesn't like them), "Inherit the Wind" (it's not a musical), and "The Magic Flute" (technically, it's an opera and Sondheim was GOING to write it but someone beat him to it).

Among the most popular musicals that DO bear his name are "A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum," "A Little Night Music," "Follies," "Into the Woods" and "Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street."

In celebration of these accomplishments, Madison Lyric Stage presents the revue "The Sun Sits Low — An Evening of Stephen Sondheim" Friday through Sunday outdoors at the Deacon John Grave House in Madison. In addition to evening performances, there will also be a matinee on Saturday.

Fourteen vocalists will nuance Sondheim hits such as "Comedy Tonight," "Losing My Mind," "No One Is Alone," "Not A Day Goes By," "Send in the Clowns," and more.

"The Sun Sits Low" marks the first Madison Lyric Stage live presentation since the start of the pandemic.
