Mystic Seaport scrambles to accommodate boat show, boaters
Mystic — Mystic Seaport Museum officials discussed the likely cancellation of Sunday’s third day of the WoodenBoat Show, which began as scheduled Friday, featuring the display of more than 100 traditional and classic wooden boats.
While moving boats around and planning for the protection of the show’s exhibitors, guests and visitors, Chris Gasiorek, vice president of watercraft preservation and programs at the Seaport, fielded dozens of calls Friday from local boaters seeking safe harbor as Tropical Storm Henri heads toward New England.
“We’ve always been a place of refuge for local mariners," Gasiorek said. “Today has been tough because of the show. I’ve had to tell some people we just don’t have room at the inn.”
He said boatowners from as far away as Westerly and Old Saybrook had called seeking protected dock space.
