Estuary magazine features new article about actor William Gillette and his home

The upcoming Fall 2021 issue of Estuary magazine will feature an article focusing on William Gillette and the home that now is the centerpiece of Gillette Castle State Park.

Gillette Castle State Park will be featured in an article to be published in the Fall 2021 edition of Estuary magazine.

The six-page article – titled “A Man’s Home is His Castle: William Gillette and the Seventh Sister” – focuses on the late actor’s history, writings, international performances and the retirement home he built on a hilltop above the Connecticut River.

The article by Eric D. Lehman features photographs of Gillette Castle’s interior and exterior by Kelly Hunt of Capture the Moment Photography. The article was written after consultation with members of the Friends of Gillette Castle State Park.

The magazine’s publisher, Dick Shriver, said he grew up in Connecticut and has vivid memories of visiting the site.

“Gillette Castle is a unique Connecticut treasure that continues to improve under the stewardship of the state park,” Shriver said.

Estuary promotes itself as a quarterly magazine for people who care about the Connecticut River’s history, health and ecology.

Subscriptions may be obtained online at estuarymagazine.com, though the subscription deadline for the Gillette Castle issue is past, he said.

The Friends of Gillette Castle State Park is a nonprofit, all-volunteer group dedicated to the preservation, conservation and educational activities of the building and its grounds. More information may be found at www.gillettecastlefriends.org.
