    H.S. roundup: Ledyard volleyball team beats Cromwell on the road

    Cromwell — Aaliyah Amidon had nine aces and eight assists as Ledyard swept Cromwell 3-0 in a non-conference volleyball game on Saturday morning. 

    Game scores were 25-11, 25-16 and 25-18. 

    Paige Perkins added eight aces and four kills for the Colonels (2-0) while Lavinia Hutchins had five kills and Layla Lasisomphone had four aces and nine assists.

    In other games: 

    • East Lyme swept Newtown 25-20, 25-21 and 25-19 in a nonleague game. Ella Freed led the Vikings (2-0) with 10 kills and six aces while Kaylen Bartok added five kills and Shannon Pierce had five aces.

    • Sonja Matheson had 11 kills and seven aces to highlight Griswold's 3-0 season-opening win over Killingly. Game scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-14. Katelyn Pasieka added six kills and six aces for the Wolverines while Gretta Dombkowski had 10 assists and four aces and Kaitlyn Fasula had nine assists and one ace.

    • Hand bounced back from a loss in the first game to defeat Waterford 3-1 in a nonleague game. Game scores were 20-25, 27-25, 25-19 and 25-14. Kate Lange had 17 kills, eight digs and two aces for the Lancers (0-2) while Izzi Frazer finished with 27 assists and Marina Colonis added nine kills and 11 digs.

    Girls’ soccer 

    • Waterford won its Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II opener with a 1-0 victory over Bacon Academy, Aimee Girard set up the lone goal with a through ball to Paige Jessuck. Jessuck found Camryn Dickinson who found the net for the Lancers (2-0, 1-0) in the 22nd minute. Kenzie Gregory made one save in goal for Waterford, which held a 9-2 edge in shots, while Sammi Ciaglo stopped three shots for the Bobcats (0-1-1, 0-1). 

    • Madisen Price scored three goals while Sydney Cook had two goals and two assists as Montville defeated Griswold 7-1 in an ECC Division III game. Kate Bowman and Lily Tomczik each added a goal for the Indians (2-0, 1-0) while Katie Koning had two assists and Kelsey Chiasson one. Natalie Becotte scored an unassisted goal for the Wolverines (0-2, 0-1).

    • Kasey Cook at two goals and two assists to highlight Lyman Memorial's 6-0 ECC Division IV victory over Tourtellotte. Magda Carpenter added two goals for the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0) while Leah Comeroski and Allysa Judd each had one goal and one assist, Avery Volle had an assist and goalie Morgan Tartaglia stopped four shots.

    • Lyla Powers scored the game's only goal in the 47th minute as Old Lyme edged East Lyme 1-0, giving first-year coach Kendra Flaherty her first victory. The Vikings (1-1) held an 11-4 edge in shots. Old Lyme is 1-0-1.

    • Karley Belisle's overtime goal lifted Plainfield to a 3-2 victory over Ledyard. The Colonels (0-1-1) had rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game on goals by Jess English, the first on direct kick and the second off an assist from Megan Armstrong. Plainfield is 1-1.

    Boys' soccer 

    • Nick Washington scored the game's first three goals in just 19 minutes and added an assist as Ledyard rolled to a 7-1 win over Lyman Memorial. Daimon Pollard added a goal and an assist for the Colonels (2-0), while Tyler Laperle, Sebby Fieldsend and Eli Diette each scored a goal, Chris Washington, Nate Vidal, Peyton Luther and Mason Day had assists and goalie Paulo Templeton made three saves. Cody Rahmann, assisted by Bennett Murphy, scored for the Bulldogs (0-2) and goalie Josh Person made 16 saves.

    • Matt Pierce scored three goals as Wheeler opened its season with a 4-0 win over Norwich Tech. Mike Caster also scored for the Lions, Jonny Anderson and Emmanuel Peterle had assists and Matt Ryan and Deondre Bransford combined for the shutout.

    • East Lyme led 3-0 at halftime and went on to beat Old Lyme 3-1. Diego Virgen, Jonathan Zavaleta and Ethan Hibbard scored goals, Reid Dowling, Jose Navas and Matt Bradley had assists and Connor Piper made four saves for East Lyme (3-0). Mason Wells scored for Old Lyme (0-2) and Jonah Lathrop made 12 saves.

    • Morgan rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Norwich Free Academy 3-2 in a nonleague game. Marc Josaphat scored goals in the 13th and 25th minutes for the Wildcats (0-2) and goalie Zachary Redanz-Swett made 12 saves in goal. 

    • A pair of own goals lifted Bacon Academy to a 2-0 ECC Division II win over Waterford. Goalie Tim Silva made seven saves for the Lancers, playing their season opener, while Ryan Claffey stopped three shots for the Bobcats (2-0, 1-0). 

    • Lyman Memorial opened its season with a 4-1 loss to Somers on Friday night. Bennett Murphy scored and Joshua Person made six saves for Lyman.   

    Football

    • Quarterback Jayden Desilus rushed for two touchdowns and threw for a third in NFA's 31-19 loss to Xavier on Friday night in Middletown. Desilus scored on runs of 12 and 3 yards and threw a 25-yard TD pass to wide receiver Maxson Pierre-Louis for the Wildcats, who trailed 17-13 at half before Xavier took charge by scoring the first 14 points of the second half.
