Groton — Pfizer Inc. announced two new hires at its facility here.

Raja Mangipudy has joined the company as senior vice president and head of global drug safety research and development, head of comparative medicine and Groton site head. He is responsible for all aspects of nonclinical safety for small molecules, large molecules, vaccines and animal care and welfare across all therapeutic areas and sites.

In addition, he is responsible for all activities at the Groton site, including public relations and site facilities.

Prior to joining Pfizer, Mangipudy was vice president of nonclinical safety evaluation and global veterinary sciences at Bristol-Myers Squibb. He also served as site head of the company’s nonclinical safety facilities at its New Brunswick, N.J., location, a major company hub.

Mangipudy was responsible for global nonclinical safety evaluation across modalities and therapeutic areas, including cardiovascular, metabolic, oncology, immunoscience, neuroscience, fibrosis and virology.

He earned his doctorate at Northeast Louisiana University (now University of Louisiana Monroe) and is a diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology. He has held positions at Merck, Sanofi, Pharmacia, Upjohn and, for a brief time at the beginning of his career, at Pfizer as a member of its sales force in India.

Liz Power, until recently director of communications and public affairs at Electric Boat, has rejoined Pfizer as the Groton site affairs lead.

She succeeds Suzanne Ellery, who will retire after 34 years with Pfizer.

Power and the site affairs team are responsible for colleague engagement, communications and community relations for Pfizer’s largest R&D site. She started her career in corporate communications at Pfizer in 1997, and held a range of roles with the company, including spokesman for the R&D organization.

In 2011, she joined Novartis Group, where she led external communications for the vaccines and diagnostics division before moving to the company’s corporate media relations team.
