    Local roundup: Stonington golf team edges Waterford 4-3 in ECC D-II match

    Stonington — Stonington won the medal point 180-186 to pull out a 4-3 win over Waterford in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys' golf match on Tuesday.

    Brandon Tavares of Stonington (3-1, 2-0) was the medalist with a 1-over-par 36 at Elmridge Golf Course. Cam O'Connor (38) and Drew Johnson also won matches for the Bears. Waterford (2-2, 1-1) got wins from Jacob Beardsley and Andrew Pafias and Zach Breadsley won his match by disqualification.

    In other matches:

    • East Lyme beat Woodstock Academy 6-1 in an ECC Division I match. Tyler Moore was the medalist for the Vikings (2-2, 2-1) with a 6-over-par 41. Ben Caron (45), Pat Kelly (45) and Jack Bucko (49) also won matches for East Lyme and teammate Nate Blankenship won his match due to a disqualification.

    • Killingly opened its season with a 7-0 win over Bacon Academy in an ECC Division II match. Ethan Lackner was the medalist with a 37, Logan Gagnon had a 38 and Cameron Seiffert and Harrison Giambattista had 39s. Bacon is 0-4, 0-3.

    • Old Lyme lost to Haddam-Killingworth 193-215 in the Shoreline Conference. Pat Flanagan of Old Lyme (1-2) was the medalist with a 46.  

    H.S. girls' golf

    • NFA beat Woodstock 217-255 in an ECC match. Molly Plecan led NFA (2-0, 2-0) with a 50. 

    College baseball

    • Avery Point beat Massasoit Community College 6-4. Michael McCullagh picked up the win with four innings in relief and Bobby Lasbury had two scoreless innings to earn a save. Vance Ward scored twice and Javon Hernandez scored a run and drove in a run for the Pointers (20-9-1). 

    • Host Wheaton scored five runs in the fifth inning to rally for a 8-6 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Greg Boland singled and hit a two-run homer for the Bears (17-12, 8-6), Blake Carroll also homered and John Carroll had a two-run double. 

    • UConn scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning and held on to beat Northeastern 5-2. The Huskies (33-8) took a 3-2 lead when Davis Smith scored when T.C. Simmons was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Zach Bushling followed with a two-run single for a three-run lead.  

    H.S. baseball

    • Randy Vidal went 5-for-6, including a two-run double, as Grasso Tech defeated Putnam 19-3 on Monday. Winning pitcher Logan Fowle allowed two hits over four innings with five strikeouts for Grasso (3-3).

    • East Hampton edged Old Lyme, 7-6, in the Shoreline Conference on Monday. Riley Warecke had two hits and three RBI for Old Lyme (4-6, 4-6) and Grady Lacourciere and Owen Snurkowski both had two hits and an RBI.
