Stronger together: Collaborations informing The Day’s journalism

No news company is an island.

In 2022, The Day continued to cultivate relationships with community organizations. We’re all better for it, and we’ll continue working with existing and new partners in 2023.

Here are some of our community partners: The Garde Arts Center, WFSB-3 and the League of Women Voters of Eastern Connecticut collaborated with us on a Congressional debate, and we hope to do more together in 2023.

The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut has been invaluable as we set about investigating the region’s housing market. The University of Connecticut’s journalism department has worked hard for us on the topic of evictions.

Connecticut College and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy have been excellent partners in our Conversation on Race series, and Mitchell College and Three Rivers also signed on to help.

Newly retired Chelsea Groton Bank President Michael Rauh asked hard questions that helped us focus as we set out on our fundraising for the housing investigation, and the Chelsea Groton Foundation approved a grant for the project.

We’ve had great discussions with the folks from Melville Charitable Trust and Graustein Memorial Fund, both of which offered financial support and subject matter expertise on housing.

The Local Media Association/Foundation provides us training and serves as our fiscal sponsor for fundraising. We’ve received training and/or guidance from Poynter Institute, American Press Institute/Trusting News, the New England Newspaper & Press Association and Connecticut Foundation for Open Government.

The New London Rotary, Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut and Thames River Heritage Park invited us to speak to their members in 2022. The News Literacy Project shared their excellent resources on disinformation.

Our most important partnership is with you, our audience, who provide us with the information and feedback we need to produce the news.

From all of us at The Day, thank you for being a partner.
