Sea Unicorns to host Vermont in winner-take-all game for FCBL title today at Dodd Stadium

The Connecticut Sea Unicorns will play the Vermont Lake Monsters in a winner-take-all game for the Futures Collegiate Baseball League championship on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Dodd Stadium.

The FCBL announced on its website late Saturday that it will mark the first time in league history its championship will be decided with a single game instead of a series.

Poor weather resulted in multiple postponements during the semifinal round and players must be afforded time to return to their homes before heading back to college.

Vermont earned its third straight trip to the finals by winning the deciding game of its semifinal series against the Worcester Bravehearts, 6-1, in a game that featured a weather delay of more than two hours.

The Lake Monsters won the 2021 FCBL title but lost in 2022 to Nashua. This will be Norwich’s first championship series appearance.

Norwich, the top-seed after finishing first in the regular season, advanced to the championship series on Friday night with a 12-2 win over the New Britain Bees in Game 3 of their semifinal series.

Norwich won five of the six meeting against Vermont during the regular season.
