Stonington PZC approves replacement of downtown Mystic building

Mystic — The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission approved a plan Tuesday night to tear down a building at 19 Roosevelt Ave. (Route 1) and replace it with a new three-story, 3,389-square foot structure that will house a salon/spa on the first floor and two residential units above.

The commission approved a special use permit for KS Real Estate Development of Pawcatuck to proceed with the project.

The project application states that the existing building, which was constructed in 1900, is in disrepair and below the base flood elevation level. Work on the project is slated to begin this fall and take a year to complete.

It is the latest building project in downtown Mystic, where work continues on the Central Hall Block and the new Bravo, Bravo restaurant.
