New London Ink to change location

New London — New London Ink will be moving a few doors down from 116 to 90 Bank St., with a target date of reopening in the new spot about Nov. 1.

The new location for the tattoo shop will feature a larger space for laser removal, which owner Jared Schroeder said is becoming much more popular, and the addition of a separate station specifically for guest artists. Schroeder is hoping to bring in more guest artists — in addition to his five artists and two receptionists — at the new location.

New London Ink has been open since 2010 and at its current spot for the past four years. It's one of three tattoo shops on Bank Street alone, but Schroeder said they work together — for example, if one place is too busy to take a walk-in, its employees may send the person down the road.

Schroeder said he is moving in part due to uncertainty at 116 Bank St., with building owner Bill Cornish looking to sell the building.

Schroeder also is excited about the renovations David Preka is working on at 90 Bank St., the former Roberts Audio Video. New London Ink will be next to Berry's Ice Cream & Candy Bar, which also moved from a few doors down.

Preka owns the building and is the owner of the contractor Advanced Improvements, which also did work on Berry's and on Muddy Waters Café this year.

Schroeder is looking forward to being in a more open space, compared to the horseshoe-shaped spot he is in now.

"Everything's just going to be bigger and better and brighter for everybody," he said.
