Westbrook — A local sailmaker, Kappa Sails, has announced it will close June 1.

Customers may pick up sails stored at the business through the month of June, the owner of the business, Brian Ward, said in a news release.

Kappa Sails, located at 404 Boston Post Road, has been in operation since 1995, providing full-service sail design, construction and maintenance. The company was founded by Clarke Bassett, who sold it to Ward in 2010.

It is one of a few independent sail lofts in Connecticut.
