Foxwoods moved poker room to Rainmaker Casino

Mashantucket — Foxwoods Resort Casino has long claimed to have “the largest poker room on the East Coast.”

It apparently still does, though the competition’s not so far behind anymore.

After closing Wednesday, Foxwoods’ poker room re-opened in a new location Friday, having moved upstairs to the Rainmaker Casino within close proximity of the new Rainmaker Buffet. The room has 54 “live action” tables, down from the 94 it used to have, according to a Foxwoods spokesman.

Foxwoods also has 60 tables set aside for tournaments, giving it a total of 114 tables.

Encore Boston Harbor, the $2.6 billion casino Wynn Resorts opened this week in Everett, Mass., has 88 poker tables, according to its website.

Mohegan Sun, which recently relocated its poker room to the casino’s Hall of Lost Tribes, slightly decreased the number of tables, to 33. MGM Springfield, which opened last summer in western Massachusetts, has 23 poker tables.

Foxwoods’ new poker room has 86-inch television screens and new furniture. The newly renovated Rainmaker Casino features an integrated gaming layout that includes slot machines, table games, the race book, a casino cage open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and ready access to parking.
