Dr. I: Somebody please make it stop

Idle Thoughts, while waiting for the Beanpot, Carlos Rodon’s 20-win season and for the Giants to draft 12 offensive linemen:

    • Dr. Idle, Dr. I to his close friends, summons cartoonist Scott Adams for today’s version of Somebody Please Make It Stop:

Adams is credited with saying, “You can never underestimate the stupidity of the general public.”

This was proven again last week when subscription research firm Antenna reported that Peacock signed 2.8 million new subscribers during the three days leading to the Miami/Kansas City NFL playoff game.

Think about that. You couldn’t read one newspaper, listen to one talk show or endure one social media post without somebody railing at NBC for its “greed” in moving the game to Peacock. Nobody cares about the little guy anymore. Everything is so expensive. Too confusing. Blah, blah, blah.

And then 2.8 million Gullible Gullivers cave like a card table with Curt Schilling standing on it.

“It’s a lot more than just this football game. You see reasonable people complaining, and then they realize what it is beyond a one-time NFL streamer,” NBC Sports president Rick Cordella told Antenna. “It’s more or less, get them in the door with football, and expose them to the library, which we think is one of the best — if not the best — in streaming.”

And it helps, too, that there’s one born every minute.

    • Trivia: What former pitcher led the Mets in single-season appearances? (Answer below)

    • Dr. I is appreciative of his ongoing education.

Example: In the wake of the church collapse, who knew, based on the HCS (Human Comments Section) there are so many structural engineers living among us?

    • Highly recommended reading: Former Coast Guard football coach Bill George’s book, “Home Fields,” a memoir about football and family. Available on Amazon.

    • Thirty-three years ago Saturday (Jan. 27, 1991) Scott Norwood missed wide right.

(He is also believed to be the last kicker to actually miss against the Giants.)

    • OK. Dr. I is on record saying he believes Waterford is the most efficiently run town here in our corner of the world.

But he’s calling for an official “Whoa, Nellie” on the proposed hotel in the general vicinity of Route 1 and Willetts Avenue.

At least until somebody figures out a new traffic pattern.

If you are coming from New London, the light at Willetts that leads to Route 1 generally has more cars than M.J. Sullivan’s front lot. A frequent cause of Dr. I’s moody behavior.

    • Gentle reminder: Digital subscriptions to AMUMO (America’s Most Underrated Media Outlet) start at $5 a week.

And if Dr. I says so himself, The Day’s coverage of the church collapse was magnificent.

    • Anyone else tired of the Kelce family yet?

    • So let’s get this straight: The greatest coach in football history is too “old school” to get hired again?

    • Mad props to the Big East for producing “Divine Providence,” a documentary on the history of Providence College basketball. Available on YouTube.

    • If singer Jo Stafford married former University of Miami athletic director Paul Dee and then divorced him to marry Boston College hockey player Colby Ambrosio, that would make her UConn’s all-time greatest play by play voice: (Jo Dee Ambrosio).

    • Congrats to Wheeler girls’ basketball coach Vanessa Kobyluck for figuring out a way to win a game with her team scoring — wait for it — 21 points.

    • No, really. Wheeler beat Tourtellotte 21-16 the other night.

    • Can we just get Billy Wagner in the Hall of Fame? And while we’re on the subject: CC Sabathia next year, too.

    • Trivia answer: Pedro Feliciano appeared in 92 games for the Mets in 2010.
