    Academic and Extracurricular Achievements

    Zachary Nussbaum, the son of Estelle and Paul Nussbaum, earned a bachelor's of arts in economics, magna cum laude, from the University of Rochester.

    Travis Ortega earned a bachelor's of science in marine biology from Roger Williams University.

    Michael Palmieri matriculated at American International College.

    Marco Parisi, a graduate of Guilford High School, will attend Clarkson University, at which he will matriculate in the fall. He plans to major in environmental engineering.

    Adam Petrone was accepted into Dartmouth College's Ph.D. program for molecular biology.

    Roxanne Raiola was named the salutatorian of the Sacred Heart Academy Class of 2012. While at Sacred Heart, she received the Harvard University Book Prize; was a volunteer at the Branford Soccer Club, the St. Mary Basketball Tournamnet, and the St. Mary Church Vacation Bible School; and was a member of the Soccer Club of Guilford U18 Girls Premier team. She also earned the distinction of Gold Tassel Scholar as a result of earning a cumulative, four-year grade-point average of 4.0 or higher. She will attend the honors program at Regis College on a four-year, full-tuition scholarship and plans to major in nursing. Raoila is the daughter of Adriene and Joseph Raiola.

    Brian Rosen earned a bachelor's of arts from Emory College of Emory University.

    Samuel Rosenthal, a student at Guilford High School, received the 2012 St. Michael's College Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience.

    Chase Walter Shutak, M.D., the son of Jean and Walter Shutak, graduated form Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He will attend Harvard University in the fall to complete studies in public health.

    Nicholas Sondej earned a bachelor's of science in mechanical engineering, highest honors, from Georgia Institute of Technology. While at Georgia Tech, he was a Presidential Scholar. He will pursue a graduate degree in the same field at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall.

    Harry DeBenedet was recognized for outstanding service and dedication to The St. Andrew the Apostle Society at the society's annual kick-off dinner.

    Sgt. John Dunn, a 22-year veteran of the Guilford Police Department, graduated from the FBI National Academy.

    Suzanne Duran-Crelin was appointed principal of Area Cooperative Educational Service's Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School.

    Molly Estabrook, manager of McDonald's at 617 Boston Post Road, Guilford, was named one of 13 McDonald's Outstanding Restaurant Manager Award recipient winners in Connecticut.

    Acts of Community Service and Charitable Contributions

    Peter and Svetlana Goletz helad a cocktail-reception fundraiser at their home to benefit the Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation in support of the Ukrainian Catholic University.

    Conor McGinley, a member of Providence College's Class of 2016, participated in the college's 22nd annual Urban Action program, volunteering in Providence, Kent, and Newport counties in Rhode Island.
