Sun play at nemesis Atlanta on Sunday

The Atlanta Dream were one of the worst matchups for the Connecticut Sun last season.

Atlanta’s combination of length, speed, defense and ability to get to the foul line allowed it to sweep three regular-season games against the Sun last year. The defending WNBA champion Seattle Storm were the only other team to sweep Connecticut.

The Sun get their first crack at the Dream on Sunday afternoon at State Farm Arena in Atlanta (3 p.m., WCCT).

Atlanta (1-3) has lost three in a row and has been hurt by the absence of two-time Olympian Angel McCoughtry, who tore ligaments in her left knee on Aug. 7, 2018.

Brittney Sykes (11.5 ppg) is the only player scoring in double figures for the Dream. They’ve shot 37.6 percent, second-worst in the league.

Former UConn guard Tiffany Hayes, a first-team All-WNBA pick last year, has averaged eight points for Atlanta this season.

The Dream should be in a foul mood after being drilled at home by the Las Vegas Aces on Friday night, 92-69.

Connecticut (4-1) bounces around the nation the next seven days. It returns home to play the Washington Mystics on Tuesday, plays at the Minnesota Lynx on Friday, and jets back to Mohegan Sun Arena to host the Storm on June 23.
