The latest AP WNBA Power Poll was released Tuesday in which a panel of 10 individuals from a national panel rank the league’s 12 teams.

The rankings reflected just how chaotic the league has been of late.

The Connecticut Sun were tied for fourth with the Washington Mystics, but were one of four teams to receive second-place votes behind the Chicago Sky. The Sun were also one of three teams ranked as low as fifth.

Connecticut began to slide in late June and lost four of its last six games prior to this past weekend’s All-Star break. It looks to get back on track Wednesday when against the last place Indiana Fever (noon, Indiana Farmers Coliseum, NESN).

The Sun (14-8) are fourth in the overall standings, but their offense has inexplicably gone south of late. They were in second place prior to June 18 and ranked second in points per game (87.9) and field goal percentage (47.2).

Since then, Connecticut’s offense has been a freefall, ranking last in both points per game (73.3) and 10th in field goal percentage (41.2) in games played from June 19-July 9.

The Sun aren’t the only top team that’s struggled of late, though. The second-place Las Vegas Aces were tearing through the league with a 13-2 record through June 20. They lost five of seven since, starting with a historic 104-95 home loss to the defending champion Chicago Sky, and played at the New York Liberty on Tuesday night. The Sky trailed by 28 points in the second quarter before putting together the greatest comeback in league history.

Two of the top contenders should both be better during the second half of the season, too. The third-place Seattle Storm (16-8) acquired Tina Charles prior to the break to give them four U.S. Olympians (Sue Bird, Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart are the others).

Washington (14-10) is in fifth place. The big reason it doesn’t have a better record is because it decided to regularly rest two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne after she needed two back surgeries since 2019 and maksing the previous two seasons.

Indiana (5-19) is on a six-game losing streak and has been beaten twice by the Sun. Guard Kelsey Mitchell is fourth overall in points per game (19) while rookie forward NaLyssa Smith has averaged 13.2 points and 8.2 rebounds.
