    Ex-tribal pharmacy employee guilty of embezzlement

    A former employee of the Mashantucket Pequot pharmacy has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to stealing $41,256 in cash from the pharmacy. Deidre Eccleston, 43, of New London, faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when she is sentenced Jan. 22 for embezzlement from an Indian Tribal organization.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Eccleston was an administrative assistant from July 2006 to July 2009 at the pharmacy, which is located adjacent to Foxwoods Resort Casino. She was responsible for collecting and depositing cash and checks received by the pharmacy and keeping them in a locked cabinet until they could be accounted for and delivered to an armored courier service for deposit. In pleading guilty, Eccleston admitted that, beginning in approximately March 2007, she deposited only the checks she received and embezzled the cash.

    According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Eccleston was an administrative assistant from July 2006 to July 2009 at the pharmacy, which is located adjacent to Foxwoods Resort Casino. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department and the Connecticut State Police investigated the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul H. McConnell.
