Shell casings, gun entered into evidence at murder trial

A detective from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad testified this morning as the murder trial of Dashawn J. Revels continued in New London Superior Court.

Revels is on trial for the murder of Bryan Davila on March 31, 2009. After Davila was fatally shot near the intersection of Crystal Avenue and State Pier Road, New London police called in the state police crime squad to process the scene for forensic evidence.

By the time the crime squad arrived, the victim had been transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead. At the crime scene, his clothing, cell phone, a .9mm pistol and eight shell casings were seized by the squad.  Detective Priscilla Vining described how the crime squad detectives conducted a walk-through of the scene, shot video, took photographs, created a sketch map and seized evidence.

Before the trial broke for lunch, New London police detective Richard Curcuro had started testifying about the interrogation of Revels, who was apprehended several blocks away from the crime scene within minutes of the shooting. Police said he matched the description of the shooter that had been provided by a woman who lived in the Crystal Avenue high-rise.

Curcuro will resume the witness stand this afternoon.
