Griswold man gets 12 years in sex assault case

A judge in New London on Wednesday sentenced a 55-year-old repeat sexual offender from Griswold to 12 years in prison.

Dennis J. Woodworth, with a last known address of 15 Edward Ave., Griswold, had faced multiple sexual assault charges and previously pleaded guilty under a plea agreement to two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

State police arrested Woodworth in 2022 following an investigation into disclosures by two juvenile girls that Woodworth had touched them in a sexual manner on multiple occasions. Woodworth was convicted in 1994 of fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

New London Superior Court Judge John Newson sentenced Woodworth to the maximum sentence allowed by the plea agreement. In addition to prison, Woodworth will serve 15 years of probation and be placed on the sex offender registry. Newson ordered two standing criminal protective orders that bar Woodworth from contacting the victims.

Woodworth has been in prison since his arrest on June 20, 2022.
