    Tigers limited to four hits in NY-Penn loss to Staten Island

    Connecticut Tigers pitchers struck out a season-high 14 but didn't get much support from the team's offense in a 2-0 loss to the Staten Island Yankees in a New York-Penn League game played before 1,708 Saturday night at Dodd Stadium in Norwich.

    The Tigers (30-31) were limited to four hits, James Robbins accounting for two of them.

    The Yankees (27-30) scored single runs in the sixth and eighth innings. Rob Segedin scored both.

    Patrick Lawson (2-3) took the loss for Connecticut. He allowed one run on five hits in 5 2-3 innings, striking out eight and walking four. Staten Island's Zach Varce (2-5) went six innings to pick up the win. He allowed four hits, struck out seven and walked one.

    The Tigers and Yankees conclude their series today at 1:05 p.m. Shane Greene (2-6, 4.59) gets the start for Staten Island against the Tigers' Rayni Guichardo (2-2, 2.98).
