Casali homers as Tigers beat Scrappers 7-4
Curt Casali hit his first professional home run and finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and the Connecticut Tigers salvaged a win in the finale of their three-game series with a 7-4 win over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in a New York-Penn League game on Friday night.
Casali, a 10th-round pick of the Tigers this year out of Vanderbilt and a native of New Canaan, began his professional career 1-for-20 before Friday.
Zach Maggard and Colin Kaline hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth inning and Jason King added a two-run single in the seventh for the Tigers (11-14). Kaline doubled twice, while King had two hits and three RBI.
Connecticut begins a three-game series at the Hudson Valley Renegades beginning tonight at 7:05 p.m.
