    Smith pitches Connecticut Tigers to victory

    Brennan Smith pitched a five-hitter, leading the Connecticut Tigers to a 5-0 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades in the New York-Penn League Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium in Norwich.

    The Tigers (35-33) move back into first place in the Stedler Division, taking a half-game lead over the Vermont Lake Monsters (35-34).

    The Staten Island Yankees beat Vermont on Tuesday, 6-4.

    Smith (4-3) retired the first 11 batters he faced and went on the throw just the fourth nine-inning complete game shutout in the league this season. He struck out three with no walks.

    Dean Green, Jeff Holm and Javier Azcona had two hits each for the Tigers and Azcona drove in two runs.

    The teams meet again in Norwich today at 7:05 p.m.
