Tigers remain in first despite loss

The Connecticut Tigers were beaten by the Hudson Valley Renegades 6-4 on Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium, but retained a half-game lead in the New York-Penn League's Stedler Division because the Vermont Lake Monsters lost to Staten Island 3-2.

Connecticut (35-34) has five games remaining - all at home - the series finale against the Renegades tonight and then a four-game series starting Friday against the Lowell Spinners. Vermont is 35-35.

The Tigers trailed 6-2 heading into the ninth, but Jeff Holm's RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Patrick Leyland cut the deficit in half. Javier Azcona, representing the tying run, flew out to the warning track in left to end the game. Dean Green drove in Connecticut's first two runs with a base hit in the sixth.
