Tigers a win away from glory
Norwich - Dean Green was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and Aaron Westlake was 2-for-4 with two RBI as the Connecticut Tigers topped Lowell 4-1 in a New York-Penn League game Saturday night at Dodd Stadium.
With the win, the Tigers maintained a one-game lead over Vermont in the Stedler Division with one game to play. Connecticut can clinch the division title today with a victory over Lowell (1:05 p.m., Dodd Stadium) or a Vermont loss against Tri-City.
Connecticut broke open a scoreless game against Lowell with a two-out rally in the sixth. Tyler Collins ripped an RBI double, followed by an RBI double from Green and an RBI single from Westlake to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
Tigers starter Wilsen Palacios (5-5) pitched seven shutout innings for the victory, allowing four hits. He struck out a season-high eight and walked two.
