The plan was to give you a quick wrap-up of Friday's action.

We'll get to that in a moment as there is Life stuff to take care of first.

Friday's game at Northwestern Regional of Winsted ended early when a male student tried to hang himself on school grounds, according to Bruno Matarazzo Jr. of the Waterbury Republican American.

John Nestor of the Torrington Register Citizen reported that the game was called with 10:07 remaining.

Pardon us as we briefly go into public service announcement mode — suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It ain't worth it. Believe us. Worse, the pain it causes family and friends is something way past devastating.

Glastonbury and Newtown were among Friday's big winners.

Glastonbury, ranked ninth in The Day of New London's Top 10 state coaches' poll, used a strong defensive effort to beat Manchester, 20-8, in a battle of unbeatens.

We hate to look ahead, but. …. keep Saturday, Oct. 20 free. Glastonbury (4-0) plays currently unbeaten Southington at Meriden's Falcon Field that evening. It looks to be THE game in the Central Connecticut Conference Division I.

Newtown ransacked Brookfield, 35-7, in a game between unbeaten South-West Conference schools. And it sure looks like the league title will be decided on Thanksgrabbing Eve (again) when the Nighthawks play host to No. 6 Masuk of Monroe.

Yeah, Barlow of Redding and Weston are also unbeaten in the SWC. They've been two of the state's better success stories four weeks into the season.

Here's the thing — four of Newtown's next six opponents have a combined record of 1-12.

Here's the other thing — Masuk plays Weston and Barlow in back-to-back weeks in November. And it hasn't lost a league game, since Nov. 25, 2009 (to Newtown, 36-25).

Friday's other notable result was North Haven's 34-20 win over unbeaten New London.

Jalon White rushed for 325 yards and five touchdowns as he and North Haven's single wing offense literally ran wild at Cannamella Field.

The Indians (3-1) have another major game next Friday as they'll play host to Hillhouse of New Haven (3-1).

The Whalers turned it over three times, twice near North Haven's goal line.

New London's loss leaves just one unbeaten team in the Eastern Connecticut Conference — Norwich Free Academy.

One last game of note — Amity of Woodbridge 61, Guilford 43.

Good grief.

As tripped out as the score was, the game only ranks 15th on the list of most points in a modern-era game by both teams.

Oddly enough, Guilford was on the winning end of the record-setting game — a 67-53 triumph over Law of Milford on Nov. 5, 2010.

The most combined points ever scored in a game was 130 during a 1902 contest involving Norwich Free Academy and New London.

NFA scored all 130 of said points.
