Someday, Ed McCarthy will take a moment during his retirement to think about Friday's historic win.

Well, at least we think McCarthy will retire some day. The venerable West Haven head coach is still storming the sidelines for the 43rd year, guiding and cajoling another group of Blue Devils.

McCarthy earned his 322nd win last night, smashing Hamden, 49-7.

"I will reflect back when it is all over and really be proud of what was accomplished," McCarthy told Mike Madera of the New Haven Register after the game. "I look back to all the coaches that were before us and what they did. It is really something I will be proud of.

"I have had great players and tremendous assistant coaches. And I have been able to have good health. Some others were in the prime of coaching and had to give it up. I have been fortunate."

McCarthy has a record of 322-112-9. He coached St. Joseph to three state titles and West Haven to four.

McCarthy passed former Ledyard coach Bill Mignault for the record.

Jalen Ollie was 16 of 25 for 327 yards and five touchdowns as the Tomahawks clinched their sixth consecutive CCC D-I East title. Yes, they won a division title on Oct. 25. Thomas Hayduk caught a deflection for a game-winning 7-yard touchdown with 30.5 seconds remaining. The Eagles (6-1) rallied from a nine-point deficit with 2:31 left in the game. Nick Roberts completed 30 of 45 passes for 516 yards and four touchdowns for Trumbull. Roberts' passing yardage would rank eighth all-time in a game according to the Connecticut High School State Record Book. Immaculate sent a press release to the Danbury News-Times on Friday stating that the program will play two sub-varsity games the rest of the season.

The Mustangs had announced earlier in the week that it was forfeiting its game to Stratford due to low numbers and injuries.

"Our limited roster has been hampered by injuries," the press release stated. "Currently, we do not project that this situation would change significantly in the future weeks."
