    William Glenn Sr.

New London - William Douglas Glenn Sr., 77, of New London, died peacefully on April 28, 2008, of lung cancer.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1930, in Thomasville, N.C., to the late Eula Mae (Craddock) Glenn and Alvin Woodard. Clarence Glenn was his stepfather.

William entered the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1949 and retired in 1978 after 28 years of service as a petty officer first class. He worked at General Dynamics in the preheat department for a total of 18 years.

William's passion was his family. He was an awesome father who bent over backwards for his family. He was a compassionate man, always lending a helping hand to all who needed it. His pastime was buying lottery tickets from the 7-Eleven, trying to hit that big number!

He leaves behind five beloved daughters, Sheryl Glenn Duzant, Aroura Brown, Donna Glenn, and Iris Glenn, all of New London, and Angela Foxworth of Columbus, Ga. He also leaves behind three beloved sons, Donald Glenn of Norwich, William Glenn and Jerry Glenn of New London; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a service at 8 p.m. at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. A graveside service with military honors will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Broad St., New London.
