Good that boardwalk is 80 percent finished

I am responding to the writer having critical comments concerning the 20 percent work remaining for completion of the Ocean Beach Park boardwalk. (”No good reason for boardwalk delay,” July 14.) It appears the writer sees the glass as half empty, not half full.

We owe a debt of gratitude for the optimism and commitment displayed by the individuals in the community who have succeeded in achieving 80 percent completion to date without burdening the New London taxpayer any further.

To compare the Empire State Building and Foxwoods hotel endeavors to the boardwalk project is inane. Are we to believe the resources are comparable?

Perhaps the writer needs to step back in time and recall when the city managed the beach, prior to the Boston Culinary Group and manager Dave Sugrue, a lifelong area resident having a personal and professional investment in New London's “crown jewel.”
