    Howard Thompson

    Enfield - Howard W. Thompson, 90, of Enfield, and formerly of North Stonington, died peacefully on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008. He was the beloved husband for more than 50 years of the late Agnes (McGowan) Thompson.

    Born in Westerly, on June 13, 1918, he was the son of the late William and Hattie Louise (Watson) Thompson.

    Mr. Thompson was employed at the former C.B. Cottrell Co., and later retired from Harris Graphics after many years of service.

    Active in civic organizations, he was a life member of the North Stonington Fire Department, North Stonington Grange and North Stonington Senior Citizens, and delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. Howard was an avid baseball fan and had been a coach and manager of the Pawcatuck and North Stonington Little Leagues.

    Mr. Thompson was a World War II Army veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.

    He will be sadly missed by his three godchildren, Judy Wheeler, Susan Storey and Glenn Gavitt, and several nieces and nephews.

    A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, in the Pendleton Hill Cemetery, Pendleton Hill Road, North Stonington. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Stonington Little League, PO Box 419, North Stonington, CT 06359.

    Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.
