No need for Palin to insult organizers

At the Republican convention, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said, “Being a small town mayor is a little bit like being a community organizer - except you have actual responsibilities.”

This raised a question. What is a community or-ganizer? A community organizer coaches Little League, assists at his or her children's school, participates in a local agricultural fair, or is a Boy Scout or Girl Scout leader.

This person could be active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars advocating on behalf of other veterans for things they should receive without question. The person could belong to the NAACP, advocating equality for all. He or she could be a labor-union leader fighting for improved conditions in the workplace. Still others may volunteer at the food bank or the Red Cross.

A community organizer could be any of us. Sen. John McCain, by choosing a person who would so casually belittle countless millions of her fellow Americans, has proved to me that he lacks the judgment and stability to live at 1600 Pennsylvania in Washington.
