    Earl Quidgeon

    Montville - Earl W. Quidgeon, 84, passed away peacefully on Sept. 18, 2008, at his home following a short illness.

    He was born on Dec. 1, 1923, in Johnsonville, N.Y., son of the late Winslow and Gladys (Hass) Quidgeon.

    Earl proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on a tanker in the South Pacific. Earl was a carnival worker who was in charge of setting up and operating the Ferris wheel.

    He was married to the late Arlene (Hart); she predeceased him in 2000.

    He was a well-liked member of the Mohegan Tribe, loving father, and adoring grandfather. Earl enjoyed making walking canes out of sticks that he would find. He loved instant lottery tickets, jumble word puzzles, and the wildlife that surrounded his home. He was an avid Yankee fan who enjoyed watching baseball, racing, and football.

    Earl is survived by his children, Allen Button and his wife, Diane, of East Hartland, Linda Williams and her husband, Steven, of Unionville, and Scott Quidgeon and his wife, Maureen, of Thomaston; his siblings, Gladys Brundage, Donald Tantaquidgeon, William Quidgeon, Winifred Lathrop, Joseph Quidgeon, and Gertrude Furman; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Calling hours will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at the Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Fort Shantok Cemetery.
