Birdseye Cafe cited for liquor permit violations

New London — The Birdseye Cafe paid a $500 fine and will have its liquor permit suspended on Jan. 26 for violating the conditions of the permit.

The Liquor Control Commission charged the bar with two counts of “conduct of permit on the premises.”

During a routine inspection, liquor control agents on April 19 noticed that patrons were smoking in the bar, said John Suchy, director of the Liquor Control division.

Agents also noticed that a dice game was set up behind the bar. The officials interviewed the bartender on duty and discovered that gambling had been occurring on the premises, Suchy said.

The bar was also charged with violating its permit because it did not have any food to serve its patrons, as its permit requires.
