    Cronin building flooded

New London - A frozen pipe burst and flooded the basement of The Cronin Building at 80-88 State St. with 2 feet of water this morning.

New London firefighters responded to the call at 11:45 a.m. and began pumping out water. They had removed half the water by 1 p.m.

The building, which formerly housed Kaye's clothing, is owned by Evan Blum of New York.

Blum has been using the building to store items for his two architectural salvage stores in New York and Middletown.

Bryan Desautell, an employee of City Center District who oversees the property, alerted the fire department.

The Cronin Building is the second downtown structure to flood this month. On Jan.13, Harris Place, one block west, flooded with 5 feet of water.

'This isn't as bad as that,” Desautell said.
