    Let it grow

Late October probably isn’t the ideal time to be talking about blooming flowers and towering plants and acres full of ripe fruit and vegetables.

And yet, it’s impossible not to be charmed by a one-two-three punch of Waterford-based establishments focused on the fine bounty of Mother Earth. They’re all strategically close to one another, too, for ease of exploration.

Scotts' Orchard Farm Market — Pumpkins and gourds abound, along with mums and seasonal vegetables in this rustic family site featuring a goat pen out front and the sort of colorful pergola that looks lifted from the set of “Midsommar.” Look for a variety of dry goods, various jams and other goodies, and there’s always the option to “pick your own.” Open until December with mums and Christmas trees in season. 451 Boston Post Road; (860) 961-5652

Hoelck’s Florist — A mom ‘n’ pop outfit proprietors Michael and Victoria Hoelck expertly and enthusiastically tending to All Things Blossom. Well, not ‘mom ‘n’ pop’ in the codgery sense of the phrase. Victoria and Michael are fun and hip and really good at what they do — which includes custom arrangements for any situation, expansive delivery set-up, and super friendly folks. 341 Boston Post Road; (860) 443-7673. www.hoekcks.com.

Jordan Brook Nursery & Gift Shop — This facility has, over the years, been owned by a succession of different citizens and is now under the umbrella of the Jordan Landscape folks. But there’s certainly a homey feel to the place with its All Who Plant Are Welcome attitude. Flowers, trees and shrubs, annuals, seasonal gifts and garden aids abound. 368 Boston Post Road; (860) 447-1558, https://www.facebook.com/JordanBrookNurseryandMore.
