You know holiday decorating has reached critical mass when there are television shows telling you how to do it Bigger and Better than your neighbors — thereby turning something celebratory into throat-ripping competition!

Relax and take in the billion-watts majesty of Starry Nights, a seasonal series of connective art installations throughout downtown Westerly/Pawcatuck that will makes Clark Griswold’s house look like someone striking their last match in a caved-in coal mine. The Starry Nights Illumination Ceremony takes place Dec. 9 at Wilcox Park in Westerly.

In addition to Wilcox Park, Donahue Park in Pawcatuck will also serve as host for all manners of spangly, star-clustered radiance including a Star Tunnel, a Wall of Wishes, a “swing upon a star” mechanism, cheery lights for the glorious sake of it, an Infinity Exhibit with stars dedicated to loved ones who have passed — and a galaxy or two more’s worth of dazzle.

This is all possible through the efforts of area artists, craftspersons and contractors, and is sponsored by the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce. The displays then run nightly through Dec. 30.
