    Anthrax plays Mohegan Sun

Thrash progenitors Anthrax are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year by touring. To help the band celebrate, you can join them Friday when they play the Mohegan Sun Arena.

The group’s lineup is fairly iconic at each position: rhythm guitarist Scott Ian, vocalist Joey Belladonna, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frankie Bello and lead guitarist Jon Donais. Yep, these dudes know each other pretty well, which is why we feel comfortable quoting typical backstage conversation from the members during this new tour:

“Joey, I’ve been meaning to ask you all these years. Is Belladonna you’re real name?”

“Scott, I think it’s time. The beard’s got to go.”

“For God’s sake! Can y’all turn it DOWN out there?!”

“Am I the only one that’s, ah, not really angry anymore? I’m no longer feeling full of (pee) and vinegar. None of our songs mean anything to me at all. I listen to them and think, ‘Who are these people and what’s wrong with them?’”

Just kidding! Anthrax is 40 and just as Anthraxy as ever. Plus, Black Label Society co-headlines and Exodus is also on the bill. The Noize will be brung!

Anthrax and Black Label Society, 6:30 p.m. Friday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $25-$45, www.mohegansun.com.
