The King of Norway’s stomach is growling
In our politically electric times, here’s an intriguing thought regarding food: “At the White House, every meal, every bite, has consequences – some intended, some not.”
That quote comes from an introduction to Lex Prud’homme’s new book, “Dinner With the President – Food, Politics, and a History of Breaking Bread at the White House.” It’s a narrative history of food and policy-at-work through the menus and meals from 26 different presidential administrations. (Dwight Eisenhower: squirrel stew?!)
Prud’homme, a veteran journalist and co-author of numerous books including Julia Child’s bestselling memoir, “My Life in France,” will discuss and sign “Dinner With President” Wednesday in Stonington’s La Grua Center. The event is co-sponsored by Bank Square Books. An advance ticket is required, and price includes a copy of the book.
Lex Prud’homme, 6 p.m. Wednesday, La Grua Center, 52 Water St., Stonington; $35 includes hardcover edition; www.banksquarebooks.com.
