A whale of a good concert

    Enter the Haggis (Lee Hetherington)

One of the big literary success of 2023 was the novel “Whale Fall” by Daniel Krauss. It’s about a teen diver swallowed by a whale and his frantic efforts to somehow escape.

One of the funnest songs of 2023 is “Swallowed by a Whale,” the latest single from Canadian Celtic-rock band Enter the Haggis. The Haggs’ accompanying video doesn’t capture the drama and horror of “Whale Fall,” but, on the other hand, the book isn’t near as foot-stompingly humorous as “Swallowed.”

I think it’d be excellent if Enter the Haggis played a set at a Daniel Krauss book signing event, but until that happens, catch the Haggs Thursday at The Kate in Old Saybrook. Their whole catalog is pretty terrific, and they’re one of the finest live bands on earth — or in the sea.

    Enter the Haggis, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, The Kate, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $42; thekate.org, (860) 510-0453.
