    A non-bleak winter’s concert

    John Gorka

It’s always fun to pop on a Christmas album and see the artist included that song called “In the Bleak Midwinter.”

For one thing, it’s got the word “bleak” in it. For another, Christmas is four days after the START of winter, not in “midwinter,” so who wants to tear their holiday good time down with a tune about something that’s gonna happen six weeks later?

Of course, post-holidays CAN be pretty bleak, which is why it’s excellent that the “On a Winter’s Night Reunion Tour,” starring exalted songwriters Cliff Eberhardt, Patty Larkin, John Gorka and Lucy Kaplansky, arrives Wednesday at The Kate in Old Saybrook.

Fans remember that these artists and others collaborated on the original and highly respected “On a Winter’s Night” concert CD released in 1994, and that they’re back together at this time of year should be calculably non-bleak.

    On a Winter’s Night, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $50, $57; thekate.org, (860) 510-0453.
