    Comic Anthony Jeselnik plays Foxwoods

    Anthony Jeselnik (submitted)

Do I owe my employers at The Day an extra hour of work this week?

    Arguably.

Because, assigned to write this advance brief on Friday’s two sold-out shows by comic Anthony Jeselnik at Foxwood’s Great Cedar Showroom, I started watching old clips of some of his performances. Sixty minutes later, only a bit self-conscious after receiving several pointed looks from newsroom colleagues because my loud laughter was presumably disruptive, I finally tore myself away from his greatness and started typing.

Jeselnik is indeed brilliant and has always worked with relentlessly dark material. But he’s truly blossomed in this, the Age of Woke, not because he’s reacting AGAINST cancel culture but because he’s always been delightedly vicious and now has a whole new demographic to target.

Onstage, Jeselnik is low key, speaking in a measured, almost hypnotic cadence as though calming an agitated child — perhaps before throwing it to wolves.

Anthony Jeselnik, 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Friday, Great Cedar Showroom; Foxwoods, sold out; foxwoods.com.
