Albano’s "Nutcracker" returns to Mohegan this weekend

Albano Ballet Company's “The Nutcracker” ballet has been showing at Mohegan Sun for 16 years now. And what would a Christmas season be without those fighting mice, dancing candy canes and a sugar plum fairy anyway?

With over 100 dancers taking the stage — the cast will combine international ballerinas and an ensemble of performers trained at the Albano Ballet Academy — the company promises to present a “Nutcracker” with full sets, costumes, props and more at Mohegan’s Cabaret Theatre.

The cast includes Miku Kawamura from Japan as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Eric Carnes, who was trained by choreographer Joseph Albano himself, as the Cavalier Prince. Aside from the handful of international dancers coming from Russia, Italy and Hong Kong, among other places, Albano also promises to deliver on some special effects, which will include giant mice, a growing tree and exploding cannons combined with a live orchestra and full-scale backdrops.

    Albano’s “Nutcracker," 7 p.m. Fri., 7 p.m. Sat., 1 and 7 p.m. Sun., The Cabaret Theatre, Mohegan Sun; $32-$38 adults, $26-$32 kids; 1-800-745-3000.
